Meet Kate!

I would love to introduce everyone to Kate… the owner, beauty, and the brains behind Floret + Vine. An introduction blog definitely has been way overdue and we are so excited to share some fun facts all about our Kate! Kate grew up in central Massachusetts, loves to go hiking, a good read, traveling, and watching movies curled up in front of a fire with her hubby and her most adorable puppy Leo. She is also a lover of all things Peonies, Garden Roses, Helleborus, Ranunculus, and Sweet Pea’s… oh, and she could eat spaghetti and meatballs everyday if she could! I asked Kate what her life goals are and she answered with “I want to be more present, enjoy the moment, and be the very best person/ wife/ aunt/ friend/ and businesswoman I can be. I also want to make sure I travel and experience new places and cultures and don’t ever take any day for granted.”

Kate’s Beautiful Business Story

When Kate was a little girl, she wanted to either be a veterinarian or work at the White House. We are so thrilled that did not happen because Floret + Vine would have never been launched and all the pretties would not have been created. So thank you Kate, for finding your passion! Now onto how it all happened… Kate started working at her first floral shop when she was 16 years young where she learned so many techniques and skills. After her first job, she worked for a family friend who had a business where they grew the vast majority of their florals. This taught Kate how to incorporate herbs and different foliage into arrangements and gave her a look into another type of floral design.

All throughout college Kate worked at floral shops. When she graduated with her business degree, she was managing a shop that had a retail component as well as an established wedding business. Kate offered to buy the business out of the blue, and at 24 years old she purchased her first business in Vermont. She truly loved the business, enjoyed her cutting gardens, her retail store, as well as growing the wedding business. When a hurricane flooded Kate’s town, she tragically had to close her shop… it was devastating. Shortly after, she moved to Maryland, where her now-husband is and went into the corporate world thinking she was done with floral design.

Kate’s heart knew better and soon she was freelancing with different design studios throughout central Maryland. After a few years of freelancing, Kate noticed a void in the region for high quality wedding floral design. She then decided to launch Floret + Vine with the vision that all brides deserve beautiful wedding flowers. After 2 years, the company has grown to a team of 8 at our Eastport-based studio with our a la carte collections freshly launched. Kate could not be prouder or more confident in her decision to follow her heart in launching the business.

Kate’s Lovely Love Story

Kate met her husband in Vermont while he was there for work. She said “he is one of the funniest, kindest, and most caring people I have ever met.” They fell in love rather inconveniently, as she owned a business in Vermont and he lived in Maryland with two children in high school. They dated long distance for over a year before Kate made the move to Maryland, which has absolutely become home for her and for them. In 2018 they eloped in Saint Lucia (jealous!) where the scenery was their backdrop. Kate’s bouquet was locally grown orchids and ginger, and they were married in a gazebo by the ocean surrounded by flowering vines. Shortly after their wedding they purchased their first home together and adopted their spoiled little puppy Leo. Kate said “I have never felt so settled, happy, and excited for the future and am the luckiest woman alive for Jeff and our little family.”

XOXO, Danielle
