The Moran/Denman wedding is close to my heart as Shane is my step-son and Sami is now my daughter-in-law. They have been together since high school and are such a beautiful couple, mature in their love and living a beautiful life here in Annapolis. Shane proposed to Sami at her P.A. school graduation, and they decided to move forward with an unconventional wedding plan due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions.

On October 2, Sami and Shane brought their sisters to the courthouse and said their vows in a sweet and intimate ceremony. After a private dinner out, they then prepared for their celebration with family the following day. When they started planning, I gifted them their wedding flowers and had such a wonderful time designing a ‘fall neutral’ color story. Sami is effortlessly cool and I knew bright autumn tones would not be appropriate, but she and Shane trusted me to incorporate some beige and toffee tones in the flowers, giving the space a depth and warmness that we magnified through as many candles as we could fit!

After a lovely dinner of 19 family members, the party really got going with the arrival of their friends. They partied long into the wee hours of the morning celebrating a love that had grown with them as they matured from teenagers to beautiful adults. It was a celebration to remember and showed how a backyard wedding can be beautiful, intimate and truly special.

One of the things I have missed the most during the COVID-19 pandemic is the ability to get together with other creatives in the industry to network and build relationships. After postponing it for 2 years, we finally held our soon-to-be annual Spring Soiree at our Eastport-based studio this past March – and it was delightful!

Being able to see and hug our wedding vendor friends was just priceless and while we missed seeing so many, it was an evening full of flowers, friends and lively conversation. It was wonderful to catch up with so many of our dear friends, as well as see them all create their own floral masterpieces at our flower bar!

In addition to catching up, we also collected items to build 12 backpacks to donate to the Blue Ribbon Project, a wonderful local organization. Through everyone’s generosity we will be delivering 12 full backpacks along with dozens of additional blankets, stuffed animals and books for children entering the foster system. Thank you all for your donations, it means so much to have you all help us give back to our community.

More about the Blue Ribbon Project:

The Blue Ribbon Project’s Mission is to prevent all forms of child abuse and provide critical support to victims of abuse and neglect. They are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that is 100% volunteer supported and directly serves abused and neglected children right here in our community. Currently serving 12 counties within the state of Maryland and the City of Baltimore, they are in the process of expanding to other counties in Maryland (and beyond). On their website, you will find various resources, articles, and several programs offered by The Blue Ribbon Project that directly serve children who are the victims of child abuse and neglect. You will also find items and resources for adult survivors struggling with the long-term effects of child abuse. The Blue Ribbon Project collaborates with survivors, victims, and professionals from various fields tied together due to child abuse and its long-term effects. It is this community approach of helping and guiding each other to overcome the obstacles presented to us.

Our donation will help support the Backpacks of Love Program:

This program supports victims of child abuse and neglect the moment they are being removed from a dangerous environment. Oftentimes, the child lacks essentials such as a toothbrush/toothpaste, a change of clothes, etc. The moment a child is removed, The Blue Ribbon Project is notified by the Department of Social Services, the Police or the foster parent receiving the child. A backpack containing those essentials is delivered directly to the child. This gets them through the first few days of care.

Designing the florals for Sierra and Brian’s Pendry wedding was such a joy. We started with a classic inspiration board of white and soft beige/blush with greenery accents. However, after Sierra was thrown a fun and whimsical bridal shower full of boho elements, she asked if we could modernize their decor a bit. So we added some pampas grass and warm tones to their design. Coining the term ‘boho-lite’ to describe this effortlessly cool and elegant direction for their day.

Letting The Pendry’s architecture speak for itself we accented the dramatic atrium with a copper chuppah, draped in vines of greenery. In the old world ballroom, we designed towering arrangements of greenery and grasses. Helping to accent the tall and stately ceilings. Then lastly, we couldn’t forget to add an abundance of candlelight.

This was a day full of love and family and it was a joy to be a part of. Cheers to you, Sierra and Brian!
